It has long been a tradition in many countries to make awards to returning war heroes, those that have distinguished themselves in battle or protecting others and those that have committed a form of service for the welfare, betterment and safety of others. Canada's tradition started with service in the Northwest rebellion and continues up to the present with peacekeeping missions and service in Afghanistan.
Medals and awards and not insignificant trinkets but a representation of sacrifice, time, effort, generosity, bravery and commitment to the values and morals that make Canada a unique country. They are badges of merit to be borne proudly and respected deeply.
