1535 August 10 Jacques Cartier's expedition sails along the St. Lawrence River in and stops in a little bay he names baie Saint-Laurent on August 10.
1535 August 10 Cartier renamed Saint Lawrence River in honour of the Deacon Lawrence on August 10 (Feast day of the Roman martyr). Previous to this, Saint Lawrence River had been known by other names, including the Hochelaga River and the Canada River.
